Praying Mantis
Distribution –
Widely found across India.
Habitat –
They prefer areas with plenty of plants where they can hide and hunt like grasslands, bushes, forests, agricultural fields, and gardens.
Defence –
Camouflage, they look like leaves, twigs, or even flowers
Life Cycle –
Egg → Nymph → Adult
Food –
Insects like flies, grasshoppers, moths, even small frogs, lizards and other mantises
Interesting Facts –
Can rotate their head up to
180°
Called “praying” mantis because its front legs look like folded hands for prayers
