Distribution: It is endemic to the Western Ghats of India.      

Habitat: Evergreen and Moist deciduous forests

Habit:

·         Evergreen

Ecology

·         The Adult Scarab beetles (Clinteria sp.) feed on the floral parts of Mammea suriga without damaging the host plant and helping in the cross-pollination

·         Honeybee is pollinator

Uses

·         The fruits are edible

·         The Wood are used for building purposes, planking and for mats of boats.

·         The flower buds are used for dyeing silk

·         It’s cultivated for its handsome foliage and sweet-scented flowers; planted as an avenue tree and in household gardens

·         The flowers are used in perfume

·         It’s root-paste is widely used as medicine to cure partial headache

·         Seed oil is used in small doses to treat urinary tract infection and pus formation
