Common name: Kamala Dye Tree, Shendri

Distribution: In India it’s distributed Throughout peninsular region and some parts of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Habitat: Occurs in Semi Evergreen, Moist deciduous, Evergreen, and dry deciduous forests.

Habit:

·         Evergreen

·         Small tree

Specific Properties

·         It is a source of Kamala dye which is used in colouring silk and wool.

·         Drought tolerant tree

Ecology:

·         Bees are the pollinators

·         Bark is much liked by Elephants.  

 

Uses

·         It is used as an antioxidant for ghee and vegetable oils.

• It’s a very strong laxative and it is very effective remedy to treat intestinal worms.

• In children, it is used to treat worm infestation. The kampilu powder with milk, curd and honey is used in children to kill intestinal worms.

•External paste of leaves applied over wounds and ulcers helps to stimulate the healing process and give relief from pus and discharge from the wounds.

•The powdered fruits, leaves are used to treat skin diseases
